Benue Church Deacon Remanded by the Police for Beating his Sister into a Coma.
Iorfa was accused by the police of assault and attempted culpable homicide.
According to TORI, a viral video showed the 59-year-old church deacon severely hitting his sister, Mrs Nguwasen Iorfa. The young woman was whipped with what appeared to be a belt until she collapsed to the ground.
He then beat the woman with a travel bag till she collapsed and lost consciousness. Even then, while she lay on the ground, he continued to kick her and yell at her.
The Magistrate, Mrs Roseline Iyorshe, rejected Iorfa’s argument that she lacked jurisdiction.
Iyorshe gave the police the order to provide the Benue Director of Public Prosecutions the case file back so that they could seek legal counsel.
She set the case for further consideration on June 8th.
Earlier, Insp. Godwin Ato, the prosecution’s attorney, informed the court that on April 11, Jenkies Shade of KM 4 Gboko Road, Makurdi, reported the crime to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi.
According to Ato, Shade said that Iorfa brutally beat his older sister, Nguwasen, of Clerk Quarters, Makurdi, on April 10.
“He hit her with an object on her head and other sensitive parts of her body until she became unconscious,” the prosecutor stated.
Following the petition, the prosecution informed the court that Iorfa had been apprehended by police investigators and had given a confession.
According to him, the offence is in violation of Sections 266 and 230 of the 2004 Criminal Code Law of Benue State.
The prosecutor pleaded for a postponement while stating that the case was still under investigation.
Meanwhile, the suspect admitted in his statement that he had a disagreement with his younger sister that led to him beating her so severely.
