The Nigerian government has confirmed the outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), also known as Bird Flu, in Kano State.

A circular signed by Dr. Taiwo Olasoju on behalf of the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria, confirmed that the outbreak has affected various bird species, including layers, ducks, guinea fowl, and turkeys.

The circular advised relevant agencies and states’ veterinary offices to activate surveillance response mechanisms to mitigate the risk of the disease spreading.

The chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Kano State chapter, Dr. Usman Gwarzo, also confirmed the outbreaks, stating that the association is working with the state government to create awareness and encourage poultry farmers to report any unusual mortality in their farms.
