A tragic road accident on March 4, 2025, claimed the life of Adetunji Opayele, a 32-year-old software engineer and co-founder of Bumpa, a Nigerian tech startup.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for justice amid allegations of negligence and a cover-up.
According to eyewitnesses, Opayele was riding his power bike along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island, Lagos State, when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Biola Adams-Odutayo, a healthcare professional. Despite wearing full safety gear, Opayele was left unconscious and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
A petition has been launched on Change.org urging authorities to take swift action against Adams-Odutayo, who was arrested and charged with reckless driving. The petition alleges that Adams-Odutayo showed a callous disregard for human life, refusing to assist Opayele after the accident and instead choosing to stay on a phone call.
The petitioners are demanding justice for Opayele and his family, calling for:
1. Proof that Adams-Odutayo remains in Nigeria and is not fleeing accountability
2. Upgrading of charges against her to include manslaughter
3. Intervention from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice to prevent any alleged cover-up
4. Commitment from the police and relevant authorities to ensure due process is followed
Supporters are urged to sign the petition and share any evidence, including videos or eyewitness accounts, to help ensure justice is served.
