The National Counter Terrorism Center has successfully rescued the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Maharazu Tsiga, along with 18 other kidnap victims.

The handover ceremony took place in Abuja, where the rescued individuals were handed over to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Ribadu commended the efforts of the security forces and intelligence agencies involved in the rescue operation, emphasizing the Nigerian government’s commitment to enhancing national security and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

Tsiga’s ordeal began when armed men stormed his residence in Katsina State, demanding a ransom of N250 million for his release. The retired general was abducted and held captive for 22 days, sparking widespread concern and outrage.

The rescue operation is a welcome relief, and the Nigerian government’s efforts to enhance national security are a step in the right direction.

However, the incident highlights the ongoing security challenges facing the country, particularly in the northern regions.
