Elon Musk’s Starlink licenses have been approved by the Nigerian government
Starlink offers satellite Internet connection in 32 countries where it has been approved for usage.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Friday evening that “Starlink approved by Nigeria & Mozambique,” however no launch date was provided.
Mr Musk reacted to a tweet enquiring about the service’s introduction in Africa three days ago with this announcement.
“Yes, first countries in Africa to be announced coming soon,” Mr Musk tweeted. “Starlink will serve everywhere on Earth that we’re legally allowed to serve.”
SpaceX’s Starlink Market Access Director for Africa, Ryan Goodnight, met with NCC’s Executive Vice-Chairman, Umar Danbatta, in May to discuss obtaining a license to operate in the country.

According to a Nairametrics article, the NCC has confirmed that the authorized licenses will be valid for five years and will begin this month.
“The company received two licences, which include the International Gateway licence and Internet Service Provider (ISP) licence, and will be trading as Starlink Internet Services Nigeria Ltd.
“According to NCC, the International Gateway licence has a 10-year tenure while the ISP licence is to last for five years. Both licences take effect from May 2022 and may be renewed after the expiration,” Nairametrics said.
Starlink, a SpaceX-operated satellite internet constellation, provides high-speed, low-latency broadband internet around the world.
