Tems and Wizkid wins at the BET Awards 2022. (See full list of winners)
Tems, real name Temilade Openiyi, took home two awards on an eventful night at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.
First, Tems and Wizkid received an award for ‘Best Collaboration’ for the song ‘Essence,’ alongside Canadian recording artist, Justin Bieber; with the win, ‘Essence’ became the first African song to win a BET award, and Wizkid became the first Nigerian and African to win an Award outside the Best International Acts category.
Tems was announced as the Best International Act winner moments later.
Fireboy, Dave from the United Kingdom, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from Congo, Little Simz from the United Kingdom, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc from France were among the nominees.

Tems also made history by becoming the first African female to win the Best International Category at the 2022 BET Awards.
Tems joins Ice Prince, Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as Nigerians who have won the BET Awards with her victory at the 2022 BET Awards.

Diddy received the Lifetime Achievement Award in addition to the usual honors. In receiving the award, he joins Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, Mary J. Blige, Samuel Jackson, and many others.
