“Water ritual” Practice is Now Banned at the University of Calabar.
The water ritual is an initiation ceremony in which students randomly pour water on graduating and matriculating pupils.
The vice chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, ordered the practice to an end, saying it was no longer acceptable and constituted rights abuses, according to Mr Gabriel Egbe, the university’s registrar, who made the announcement in Calabar on Friday.
In response to a widely shared video showing a female student being humiliated at the last matriculation, the vice chancellor has ordered the practice to an end.

A committee has been established to investigate the despicable deed perpetrated against the female student in addition to the official cessation of the inappropriate act, and those found guilty will face the proper sanctions.
The Acting Chief Security Officer retired Captain Austin Bisong, and other pertinent university personnel have been tasked with making sure that the unpleasant incident never happens again, according to Egbe (NAN).
