A 25-year-old woman abducts her 6-year-old daughter in Kano and demands a ransom of N3 million.
The young woman is accused of kidnapping her 6-year-old daughter, Hafsat Kabiru, and holding her estranged husband hostage in exchange for N3 million.
The state’s commissioner of police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, gave a description of the young girl’s kidnapping when presenting the suspects at the command centre. He said that the husband, Kabiru Shehu, had attended the command earlier and reported that his daughter had been abducted.
“In a follow-up investigation, the victim was rescued in Madobi LGA, and the wife, who was earlier divorced by the husband, confessed to having planned the kidnapping of her daughter,” Gumel explained.
He claims the mom indicated that she usually travels, was gone for four days and had left the daughter with a neighbouring relative in Madobi.
After being led before the media, the suspect admitted to them that she had kidnapped their daughter in order to seek money from her ex-husband to take care of his kids because he had been withholding child support for more than ten months.
“I called him and told him that our daughter was missing and we went to the police together and reported the matter. Inside the police station, I gave him the number of the guy that will receive the ransom,” she reportedly stated.
She expressed regret for her behaviour and claimed to have made amends with her husband.
The husband stated that his wife had never done such a thing before as he acknowledged their reconciliation.
The CP, however, asserted that following the inquiry, all suspects would face charges.
