BREAKING: New Minimum Wage: Nigeria Labour Congress In Enugu, Oyo, Kaduna, 11 Other States To Commence Indefinite Strike
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has directed workers in 14 states to embark on an indefinite strike from Monday, November 30, 2024, over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage and the payment of old salaries.
The affected states include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Federal Capital Territory, Imo, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe, and Zamfara.
In July, President Bola Tinubu signed the new Minimum Wage Act into law, increasing the minimum monthly salary in the country from N30,000 to N70,000.
However, only 23 states have domesticated the law, excluding the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja).

The NLC has been pushing for the implementation of the new minimum wage, and the strike is seen as a last resort to compel the affected states to comply.
The strike is expected to affect various sectors, including education, healthcare, and transportation.
