Since his arrest in 2017, Kareem had spent a total of 57 months in custody.

However, the judge released Kareem because the prisoner had served too much time in detention; the Correctional Service then complied.

The prisoner was released from the Ikoyi Correctional Center, according to Mr. Oladokun.

In February 2017, the police filed 36 charges against the actor for advance fee fraud totaling N39 million, $90,000, and £12,550.

He was accused by the police of defrauding no less than 40 Bureau De Change employees in Lagos over the course of two years, from 2015 to 2017.

The former socialite from Lagos entered a not guilty plea and was remanded in custody on February 10, 2017, pending when he would finish his jail sentences.

He was held in custody throughout the trial because he was unable to adhere to the bail conditions.

After two subsequent amendments, the charge sheet eventually had 40 counts and five defendants after the addition of Lawal Kareem, Olalekan Yusuf, and Muyideen Shoyombo.

The first defendant, Kareem, pleaded not guilty to the remaining 38 counts while the other five defendants entered not guilty pleas to the first and second counts.
