Kano Government Shuts Down Supermarket For Rejecting Old Naira Notes.

Baffa Babba Danagundi, the council’s acting chairman, claims that the supermarket was shut down shortly after Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje issued the directive.

He said that WellCare Supermarket’s unwillingness to accept old naira notes from consumers in defiance of the state government’s directive led to the closure order.

The state government has not outlawed the use of old Naira notes, thus any shop caught not receiving the old notes will face harsh punishment, he cautioned fellow merchants in Kano.

Wellcare Alliance Limited sent a letter of regret to the government soon after the supermarket was shut down, pleading for quick action to reopen it.

Wellcare, a well-known store, has been shut down by the Kano state government’s Consumer Protection Council because it refused to accept Old Naira notes.

Kano is one of the states that filed a legal challenge against the new naira redesign program.
