A Vice Principal of a private secondary school in Akure, Ondo State, has been brutally attacked by suspected thugs allegedly hired by the mother of a student.
The incident occurred after the Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, prevented exam malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure.
Mr. Rotifa confiscated an Android phone from an SS3 student, Wisdom Elisa, during an examination session, which led to a heated confrontation with the student’s mother. The situation escalated, and the school proprietor ordered the phone to be returned. However, the student’s brother, an alumnus of the school, returned to harass and threaten Mr. Rotifa.
After school hours, Mr. Rotifa was dragged from a police van by the thugs and brutally beaten. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been discharged, but is afraid to return home due to fear of further attacks.
The Ondo State Ministry of Education has condemned the incident and promised to bolster security in the school during the remaining WASSCE papers. An investigation is ongoing to apprehend the culprits.
