Takehiro Tomiyasu Set to Depart Arsenal After Injury Setback
Arsenal and Japan international defender Takehiro Tomiyasu are reportedly set to part ways, with the club expected to mutually terminate his contract ahead of schedule.
Tomiyasu, who still has one year left on his current deal—plus an optional extension—has struggled with a long-term knee injury that kept him sidelined for most of last season.
He made just a six-minute cameo in the 2024/25 campaign before undergoing surgery, and he isn’t expected to return to full fitness until later this year.
Signed from Serie A side Bologna in 2021, the versatile defender has made 84 appearances for the Gunners across all competitions. Though his time at the Emirates has been marred by injuries, Tomiyasu has often been praised for his composure, work ethic, and tactical intelligence when fit.
With Arsenal pushing forward under Mikel Arteta and strengthening the squad for the new season, both parties appear to have agreed that an early exit is the right move for Tomiyasu’s career.
