₦189bn Scandal: EFCC Grants Former Sokoto Governor Tambuwal Bail After Interrogation
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on administrative bail following questioning over an alleged ₦189 billion financial scandal during his time in office.
Tambuwal, who also previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, is accused of illegally withdrawing approximately ₦189 billion while serving as governor.
Sources disclosed that Tambuwal honoured the EFCC’s invitation on Monday, arriving at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja at exactly 11:16 a.m. He was subsequently interrogated before meeting the required bail conditions.
A senior EFCC official, speaking anonymously, revealed:
“He has been granted administrative bail. We have extracted what we need from him, and he will leave our headquarters after finalising his bail requirements.”
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the development but declined to provide additional details regarding the case.
The investigation into Tambuwal’s alleged financial misconduct remains ongoing, with the EFCC expected to continue probing the matter in the coming weeks.
