A 60-year-old man from Kano alleged of marrying a minor speaks up
A few weeks ago, a video of Danmaliki and a young lady, widely believed to be underage, appeared on social media. The woman was leaning on him, and Danmaliki’s left arm was securely encircling her shoulder while he made sexy comments.
After pictures from their wedding went popular on social media, Nigerians condemned the man.
Several had criticized him, stating that young women should not be married off to elderly men but instead should be protected.
Danmaliki responded by stating in a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday that the woman in question is 21 years old, not 11 as many people have claimed.
She wasn’t coerced into marrying him, he claimed; they genuinely love one another.
“My recent marriage with Sakina has generated a lot of tension and unfounded allegations that I married an underage girl. Some suggested she is 11 years old and that she was forced to marry me. That is untrue.
“The wedding video went viral. We decided to keep mute but were advised to state the true facts. Here it is: My beloved wife is 21 years old. She made her own choice of me as her husband, and I loved her too.
“I hope the blackmailers and doubting Thomases will see the reality in this picture and leave us alone to enjoy our honeymoon,” he stated.
