Lagos Blue Line Rail Now Runs Every 10 Minutes on Weekdays – 90 Daily Trips Announced
Starting Monday, August 11, 2025, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will increase its weekday service frequency, offering 90 trips daily and departing every 10 minutes during peak hours.
According to Kolawole Ojelabi, Head of Corporate Communications at LAMATA (Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority), this update will cut average commute times by 44%, reducing journey duration by about eight minutes.
What’s Changing?
Weekday trips increased: From 72 to 90 trips
Train frequency: Every 10 minutes
Sunday schedule: Unchanged at 22 trips
Peak hours: 4 train sets in operation
Off-peak hours: 2 train sets in operation
This improvement comes as part of efforts by the Lagos State Government—backed by the Federal Government—to modernize public transportation through new rolling stock and expanded infrastructure.
“We are excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” said Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of LAMATA.
She also hinted at even bigger plans on the horizon.
The increased capacity is a precursor to the full operation of the Blue Line, which will eventually extend to Okokomaiko.
The full extension is slated for completion in late 2026, with passenger services beginning in early 2027.
