The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Nigeria Police Force demanding the immediate release of activist and 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

The student body also called for a public apology from the Inspector General of Police, warning of nationwide protests if their demands are not met.

In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, NANS President Comrade Atiku Isah condemned what he described as the unjust arrest, detention, and alleged molestation of Sowore, a prominent critic of corruption and advocate for good governance in Nigeria.

Omoyele Sowore is one of our patrons and has been a fearless voice against corruption. He has mentored countless young Nigerians and has contributed more to the progress of this country than most public officials alive today,” Isah said.

The statement further described Sowore’s treatment as unacceptable, highlighting his influence on youth development and national discourse.

“He does not deserve such treatment. NANS is giving a 24-hour ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police to release Sowore and issue an apology to him, his family, and supporters.”

NANS has pledged to mobilize students across the country in mass protests if the police fail to act within the stipulated time.

Meanwhile, there remains a visible divide within the student body, as another faction of NANS, reportedly led by Olusola Ladoja, is said to have the backing of the Bola Tinubu administration.
