For drug abuse in the Rivers community, young residents flog a police officer and two other people (video).
Two people, including Joshua Eyong, a serving police officer, were flogged by youths in the Nkpolu community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Due to their alleged use of powerful illicit drugs, they were flogged.
Information made public showed that in response to the rising drug use in the neighborhood, the young leadership started a “No to Drug Abuse” campaign.
It was discovered that the majority of the community’s inhabitants have lost their houses and valuables as a result of drug addiction.
The young people reportedly broke into a drug hideout and took the three people—including the police officer—into custody.
The officer, who was assigned to the Obio/Akpor Local Council division, introduced himself as Joshua Eyong in a video that was seen online.
Chamberlain expressed concern that the majority of young people in his community had lost their houses due to drug usage, and he added that drugs are harming young people, which is why the effort was made to stop it.
“There is a campaign going on in our community headed by the youths of Nkpolu, following the powers given to me as the youth president to ensure that there are no drugs in our community,” he stated.
“We discovered that some of our children do not have homes. We found that the property that their parents struggled with is being sold for drugs. What they do is that after taking drugs worth N3,000,000, they sell their house for N4,000,000.
“The drug dealer will now give them N1,000,000. Nkpolu has decided that there will be no drug dealer, no drug smoker in our community again. If you want to take drugs, go to Rumuaghorlu, go to hotels. It should not be something that should be done here.” He added.
