Nigerian comedian General Odey narrates 50 terrifying days in the kidnapers’ den: “We Were Starved, We Were Beaten.”
During his Thursday appearance on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief, the comedian called the experience “horrible and unimaginable,” adding that he would not wish it on his worst enemy.
After being held captive by kidnappers for almost 50 days, renowned comedian Odey Mathias, better known by his stage as General Odey, has described his experience.
Odey and 23 other people were kidnapped on April 18, 2025, when they were traveling through the Oron/Uyo waterways to Calabar.
He claimed that before moving the passengers into another boat, the kidnappers fired shots and crashed their boat into his. After that, they were moved to an unidentified place for roughly forty minutes.

He stated that he his stay lasted longer Possibly because he was wearing a military-style uniform, meanwhile the majority of the hostages stayed for fewer days.
He stated ;
“We were beaten, starved, and warned never to look at their faces. Anytime we tried, they hit us,”
The kidnappers resided with their families in a settlement that resembled a creek, Odey claimed.
He claimed that when demanding ransom, the captors only led them to locations with phone signals, played loud music, and fired bullets into the air.
During the incident, the comedian disclosed that his family collaborated with a security agency, The kidnappers requested further money after the initial ransom of more than ₦3 million was paid, raising the total to almost ₦8 million before he was freed.
