Former President Obasanjo’s daughter withdraws from the Ogun 2027 governorship race.
Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has formally withdrawn her candidacy for governor of Ogun State in 2027, causing significant turbulence in the campaign.
The daughter of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has declared that she will not be running for governor of Ogun State in 2027. After the All Progressives Congress (APC) selected Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate, she left.
She clarified that the action came after party leaders adopted Adeola at a crucial meeting in Abeokuta.
On Monday night, the former candidate made her decision known in a statement. Before the party leadership united around a single candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ran for the APC ticket.
In her statement ;
“I congratulate him and wish him every success. I also thank the state and national leaders of our great party for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey. Together, we move forward with patience, strength and hope.”
Her withdrawal is seen by the Ogun APC as a major development since it makes room for Senator Adeola ahead of the party’s primaries and general election preparations in 2027.
