Man Apprehended for Taking FCT Promotion Exam on Behalf of His Father.
A 33-year-old man, identified as Monsuru Musa, has been arrested in Abuja after he was allegedly caught writing a Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promotion examination on behalf of his father.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja.
Son Allegedly Sat for Father
According to reports, Monsuru was caught by security personnel monitoring the examination after allegedly presenting himself as his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
During questioning, Monsuru reportedly admitted that he was not the registered candidate and said his father had instructed him to take the examination on his behalf because of his health condition.
Father Confirms Son Was Acting on His Instruction
Authorities subsequently questioned Musa Mohammed, who reportedly confirmed that Monsuru was his biological son.
When asked whether he had sent his son to write the examination because of his health, Mohammed reportedly answered in the affirmative.
The case, however, took another turn when officials questioned the pair about Mohammed’s age.
Conflicting Information About Father’s Age
Monsuru reportedly told interrogators that his father was between 67 and 68 years old.
Mohammed, however, gave a different account, saying that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Further questioning revealed that Mohammed said he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982. The discrepancies prompted additional questions as authorities continued their investigation.
Both Father and Son Handed Over to Police
Following the incident, both Monsuru and his father reportedly made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) before being handed over to the police for further investigation.
The incident has also drawn attention to the security measures being used during the FCT promotion examinations, as authorities seek to prevent impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.
As of the latest reports, no conviction has been recorded against either man, and the allegations remain subject to investigation.
