Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced a significant increase in the monthly salary of newly employed medical doctors working in primary healthcare centers across the state. The new salary structure pegs the monthly pay at ₦500,000, a substantial jump from the previous ₦150,000.

The governor made this announcement during the flag-off of health activation in Ebonyi State. He emphasized that the salary increase is part of a broader effort to improve the healthcare system in the state. According to him, the state government has invested over ₦10 billion to upgrade healthcare facilities, purchase essential equipment, and enhance manpower across Ebonyi.

The governor also revealed that his administration has recruited 195 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and lab scientists, to boost healthcare delivery in the state. These professionals have been posted to general hospitals across Ebonyi to ensure that quality healthcare services are readily available to the citizens.

In addition to the salary increase, the governor also launched a Drug Revolving Fund, which aims to ensure that essential drugs are always available in hospitals across the state. The fund’s revolving nature guarantees sustainability, transparency, and accountability in the management of resources.

The governor also distributed modern medical equipment to general hospitals in the state. The equipment includes hospital beds, mattresses, patient monitors, drip stands, and other critical supplies. According to him, these tools are not just decorations but are essential for saving lives.

The governor emphasized that his administration is committed to partnering with institutions to train and retrain healthcare workers to meet global standards. He called on community leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society to help monitor and protect investments in the healthcare sector.

The governor’s vision for the healthcare sector in Ebonyi State includes building specialist hospitals in all three senatorial zones to provide advanced healthcare services, reduce medical tourism, and save lives. He also expressed interest in exploring partnerships for healthcare financing and digital health systems to improve efficiency and access.
