Former Arsenal Midfielder Thomas Partey Charged with Multiple Counts of Rape and Sexual Assault
Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, following a police investigation into allegations involving three women.
The reported offences occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey, who denies all charges, was granted conditional bail after appearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The court hearing lasted less than 15 minutes and did not require Partey to enter a plea. He was only asked if he understood the charges and bail conditions.
The case has now been escalated to Crown Court, with a trial set to begin at the Old Bailey on September 2.
Breakdown of Charges:
- Two counts of rape relate to one woman
- Three counts of rape involve a second woman
- One count of sexual assault pertains to a third woman
Partey was initially arrested in July 2022, though his identity was not disclosed at the time.
Despite the ongoing investigation, he continued to play for Arsenal FC until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Partey’s legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire of Hickman and Rose, released a statement following the charges:
“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired on June 30, 2025, officially making him a free agent. The Ghana international joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atlético Madrid for £45 million, and played 52 matches across all competitions last season.
