A contentious banner that sparked widespread outrage and criticism has been removed from the Lekki Central Mosque in Lagos State.

The banner, which bore the inscription “Jesus Christ is Not God,” was taken down after a barrage of condemnations from Nigerian netizens and prominent figures, including renowned actress Wumi Tuase.

The removal of the banner was confirmed by a video circulating on social media, in which a member of the mosque community, Tunde Alabi, verified that the banner had been taken down.

Alabi apologized for any inconvenience the banner may have caused and expressed his regret over the controversy it sparked.

The controversy surrounding the banner began when Wumi Tuase shared a post on social media expressing her dismay and disappointment at seeing the banner displayed prominently in front of the mosque.

Her post sparked a national conversation about religious tolerance and respect, with many calling for the removal of the banner.
