Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed for the second time in 2025, plunging homes and businesses across Lagos State and other major cities into darkness.

The latest collapse occurred at 11:34 am on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, according to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.

This development marks the 14th grid failure in the past 14 months, sparking widespread frustration among Nigerians.

The grid collapse has resulted in a significant drop in power generation, with reports indicating that generation plummeted from 2,111.01 megawatts to 390.20 megawatts.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company has assured customers that restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with critical stakeholders.

Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The National Grid’s X page confirmed the grid disturbance, stating that parts of the country experienced outages.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has also reported similar grid disturbances in the past, citing line and generator trippings as the cause of instability in the grid.
