President Tinubu Rewards D’Tigress with $100,000 Each After Afrobasket Triumph
Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, received a hero’s welcome at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their historic win at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship—and they didn’t leave empty-handed.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted the victorious squad on Monday, celebrating their fourth consecutive Afrobasket title with national honors and generous financial rewards.
Each player was awarded a $100,000 cash gift, while members of the technical crew received $50,000 each in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the team’s success.
In his remarks, President Tinubu praised the team for their discipline, resilience, and determination, calling them “inspiring role models” and a symbol of national pride.
“You have shown the world what it means to be Nigerian—bold, brilliant, and unbreakable,” Tinubu said during the ceremony.

D’Tigress secured their latest title after a fierce battle against Mali in the final, further cementing Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
Their victory not only adds to their growing legacy but also serves as a major boost for women’s sports in Nigeria.
