Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince” Passes Away After 20 Years in Coma
Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud—widely known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince“—has passed away after spending two decades in a coma following a devastating car accident. He was 35 years old.
Born in April 1990, Prince Al Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud and the nephew of billionaire businessman Prince Al Waleed bin Talal.
At just 15 years old, while undergoing military training in London in 2005, he suffered severe brain injuries and internal bleeding in a car crash that left him in a minimally conscious state.
Despite the best efforts of top medical specialists from around the world—including teams from the U.S. and Spain—the prince never fully regained consciousness.
He remained under intensive care in a specialized Saudi medical facility for 20 years.
Throughout his condition, Prince Al Waleed’s family held onto hope for a miracle.
His father, Prince Khaled, consistently refused to withdraw life support, expressing deep religious faith and belief in divine healing.
Over the years, videos occasionally surfaced showing the prince making slight movements, often in response to Quranic recitations—moments that stirred public sympathy and kept his story alive in hearts across the Arab world.
However, on Saturday, July 20, 2025, Prince Khaled announced his son’s passing in a heartfelt message shared on social media:
“O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], and enter among My [righteous] servants, and enter My Paradise.”
“With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. May Allah have mercy on him.”
