A Super Falcons midfielder revealed why some female football players are reluctant to get married even though they want a family by talking about a silent anxiety that affects many of them.
Speaking about the difficulties faced by female football players, Super Falcons midfielder Ngozi Okobi revealed that many women are scared to get married for fear of losing their spot on the national team.
In an interview with a broadcast media outlet, Okobi clarified that married women and mothers are frequently viewed by society as “too old” to compete at the top level.
She pointed out that the majority of female athletes are afraid of getting married because they think they won’t be able to play for their country after they get married.
She claims that many fans mistakenly believe that marriage and motherhood diminish a woman’s capacity to perform, frequently perceiving married women or new mothers as elderly or incapable of carrying on with their jobs.
Reflecting on her own experience following childbirth, Okobi said that being a mother was one of the most challenging times in her life. She disclosed that she just started training five months after giving birth and found it tough to regain her fitness because she had gained weight during that time.
She acknowledged that her career does not supersede her duty as a mother, but it is still very important to her, and she thanked her husband, family, and colleagues for supporting her comeback to professional football despite the difficulties.
She insisted that motherhood merely affected her level of fitness rather than her aptitude or abilities, and she added that she gets daily inspiration from her son to keep pushing herself in her job.
