In a daring operation, local vigilantes in Zamfara State have eliminated two of the most feared bandit leaders, Kacalla Maijikka and Me Dada.
The operation, carried out on Wednesday in Garagi village, Mayanchi district of Maru Local Government Area, resulted in the death and beheading of Me Dada, a ruthless commander known for leading deadly attacks and kidnappings in the area.
According to reports, the vigilantes ambushed the bandits, following intelligence on their location. Me Dada was killed on the spot, and his head was taken as proof of the successful operation.
Kacalla Maijikka, infamous for kidnapping victims, extorting hefty ransoms from their families, and then killing the hostages despite full payment being made, was also confirmed killed.
The elimination of these two bandit kingpins is seen as a significant breakthrough in local security efforts. Residents of Zamfara have long suffered from the activities of criminal gangs, with many displaced or left grieving due to the continuous cycle of violence.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the killing of the two notorious bandits, saying, “I’m aware that the two bandits were eliminated”.
Zamfara State has been plagued by banditry, with armed groups operating from camps hidden within a vast forest that spans Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, and Niger states.
These groups have been responsible for mass abductions of students from schools across the region.
Despite a peace agreement between the state government and bandits in 2019, communities in Zamfara have continued to suffer frequent attacks, with residents routinely kidnapped or killed.
In a recent incident, bandits attacked a community in Zamfara State, killing a Nigerian Army lieutenant and several soldiers. The attack occurred when armed men laid an ambush for the military team deployed in the area.
The soldiers were responding to a distress call from Tofa community, which has suffered several attacks in recent times.
