Young Woman Took Her Own Life After Being Led to Marriage
Bukar Fantami Gubio, a local child protection volunteer, confirmed the occurrence and called it painful and regrettable.
After being compelled into marriage, a young girl committed suicide.
The tragic event took place in Borno State’s Gubio Local Government Area.
According to reports, the young woman committed herself after her father had her marry one of her friends.
The incident happened at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2025, when the young woman, who was reportedly experiencing emotional turmoil, took her own life after feeling pressured by her family to go ahead with the planned marriage, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
The deceased had previously stated that she was in love with someone else and would not marry the man her father had selected, according to local child protection volunteer Bukar Fantami Gubio, who confirmed the incident and called it extremely regrettable and heartbreaking.
Gubio stated ;
“The emotional pain and pressure she went through as a result of this forced marriage pushed her into taking her own life. It is truly a sad situation that calls for urgent action,”
In order to guarantee justice and stop such incidents, he urged human rights organizations, law enforcement, and pertinent authorities to look into the issue and act right away.
Gubio emphasized that forced marriages continue to be a serious violation of human rights and urged parents and community leaders to respect young women’s rights and choices in marriage.
