2027: Lamido Backs Jonathan as PDP’s Strongest Presidential Option
Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to bring back former President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as the party’s strongest contender for the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Lamido said Jonathan’s track record, leadership experience, and collaborative approach to governance make him the most qualified candidate from the South within the PDP.
“I think for PDP now they should try to woo him. He is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” Lamido stated.
The PDP chieftain praised Jonathan’s ability to work with others and his proven competence from his time in office.
He argued that no current southern PDP member matches Jonathan’s experience or political weight.
“If we are giving the presidency to the South, who else in the PDP can challenge Jonathan? He has been in office, he listens, he values partnerships, and he understands governance,” Lamido added.
His comments come amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible political comeback.
Although the former president has remained relatively quiet since losing the 2015 election, reports suggest discreet lobbying within PDP ranks to persuade him to run in 2027.
Jonathan has not made any public declaration about his intentions, but his name continues to dominate conversations about the party’s future strategy.
