Ghana’s ex-president and main opposition leader, John Dramani Mahama, has been formally declared the winner of the country’s presidential election.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana announced that Mahama won the election, defeating his main rival, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president, described his victory as a “constant reminder of what fate awaits us if we fail to reach the aspirations of our people and govern with arrogance.” He also promised to implement “severe measures and governance reforms” to “reset our nation”.

The election was marked by a significant voter turnout, with the Electoral Commission counting votes from constituencies across the country. Mahama’s victory is seen as a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape, with the country facing economic and cost-of-living crises.

Mahama has pledged to renegotiate the terms of an International Monetary Fund bailout to restructure the country’s debt. He also plans to ease business regulations, introduce a new work system, enact tax reforms, and invest in modernizing infrastructure.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana is responsible for conducting and overseeing elections in the country. The commission’s website provides information on election results, voter registration, and electoral laws.
