The Abuja Court has adjourned the bail hearing of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore to 3 PM Wednesday.

Sowore is facing cybercrime charges filed by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for calling him an “Illegal IGP” on social media.

Earlier today, Sowore pleaded not guilty to the charges, which were marred by numerous grammatical and spelling errors.

His lawyer, Abubakar Marshall, presented an oral application for bail, citing various sections of the Administration of the Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

Justice M.S. Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja requested that Sowore submit a formal application for bail, which will be heard at 3 PM today.

The judge stood down the matter after Marshall’s oral application, and the prosecution and defense counsel reached an agreement on both oral and formal applications without objection.

Meanwhile, a group of activists and civil society organizations stormed the court to protest against Sowore’s arrest and cybercrime charges.

The protesters sang anti-government songs and demanded Sowore’s immediate release, insisting that he had not committed any offense for exposing the rot in the police.
