Former senator Shehu Sani has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the changed circumstances that led to his initial exit in 2018.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central, blamed ex-Governor Nasir el-Rufai for the party’s losses in Kaduna State.

According to Sani, his return to the APC was facilitated by Kaduna’s current governor, Uba Sani, who reached out and mended fences. Sani praised Governor Uba Sani for his efforts to build bridges across the state, which contributed to his decision to rejoin the party.

Sani criticized el-Rufai, accusing him of failing to unite the APC in Kaduna, resulting in the party’s defeat in the 2023 elections.

He pointed out that during el-Rufai’s tenure, the APC lost all three senatorial seats to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and only won three out of 14 House of Representatives seats.

El-Rufai has recently distanced himself from the APC, criticizing the party for straying from its founding principles. Sani questioned el-Rufai’s commitment to reconciliation, citing his refusal to mediate during the APC crisis in Kaduna that lasted seven years.
