Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the political adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons.

Baba-Ahmed, who served in the administration of Vice President Kashim Shettima, was appointed in September 2023 and represented the presidency at various public engagements for approximately 17 months.

His resignation, which was submitted about two weeks ago, has not been officially accepted by the presidency, according to sources. Baba-Ahmed’s tenure was not without controversy, particularly with Minister of State for Defence Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

The two clashed in April 2024 when Matawalle urged northern appointees to defend the Tinubu administration against criticism.

Baba-Ahmed responded by suggesting that Matawalle should focus on showcasing the achievements of northern appointees instead of attacking the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).
