A terrorist group known as Mahmuda has launched a fresh attack on Duruma village in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The incident occurred on Friday evening, with reports indicating that the group arrived at the village on motorcycles and started shooting indiscriminately.
The terrorists also burnt a vehicle and some motorcycles belonging to a local vigilante group in the community. Residents are worried about additional attacks in the area, with some sources confirming that two militants were killed during the attack.
One resident described the situation, “This was what the Mahmuda boys did yesterday in the Duruma village. Two of the militants were killed during the attack as well.”
The group’s activities have been terrorizing residents, with sources stating that “they called themselves Mahmuda group. Their leader in a voice note is threatening all the communities.” They “kill and kidnap victims and also demand ransom.”
Further study is needed to reveal the true identity of this faceless group, but “some people claim that the militant group came from the Benin Republic or Niger Republic.”
The militants “mainly speak Hausa,” and their activities have resulted in community members living at the mercy and dictates of the non-state actor.
