Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has revealed his plan to end Nigeria’s insecurity problems if elected president.
According to Sowore, the root cause of insecurity in Nigeria is economic inequality, which he believes can be addressed through effective leadership.
Speaking in a recent interview, Sowore accused the Nigerian ruling elite of weaponizing poverty and overseeing a security architecture more loyal to personal gain than national protection.
“They (Nigerian leaders) have failed and we have told Nigerian people, but they don’t want to listen to advice. They came here to take care of business — their own personal business,” Sowore said.
Sowore asserted that under his leadership as president, he would tackle the insecurity challenge head-on. “The root cause of insecurity is first and foremost inequality,” he said. “As president, I will address this issue and ensure that our security agencies prioritize national protection over personal gain.”
Omoyele also criticized the country’s top security officials, accusing them of complicity and incompetence. He mocked the Nigerian military hierarchy, describing it as a system where connections to traditional rulers and pastors outweigh combat experience.
To tackle insecurity, Sowore emphasized the need for effective security agencies that prioritize national protection over personal gain. “You cannot have an IGP who is tired and ought to have retired and expect insecurity to end, it will not end,” he added.
As president, Omoyele vowed to reform the security architecture and address economic inequality, believing that Nigeria can achieve lasting peace and stability through these measures.
