Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has confidently dismissed the possibility of a joint Atiku Abubakar–Peter Obi ticket posing any threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, July 10, Onanuga responded to reports of a budding opposition coalition that includes key political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former governors Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) and Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), as well as ex-Senate President David Mark.

While the coalition is gaining public attention, Onanuga said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unfazed.

“They are free to form alliances, but as far as the APC is concerned, we don’t see them as any threat,” he stated. “If you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, there is no way the two of them can beat a Bola Tinubu and Shettima ticket. It is going to be impossible.”

The presidential aide emphasized that President Tinubu’s record in office will be the defining factor in 2027—not political calculations or last-minute alliances. He added that discussions of 2027 are premature and that “it is not yet time for politicking.”
