IGP Egbetokun’s Female Orderly Allegedly Promoted to DSP Without Writing Mandatory Exams–Sources

Allegations have surfaced within the Nigeria Police Force that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Yemisi Ademosu, a female orderly to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, was promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) without undergoing the mandatory promotion examination.

Multiple police sources said that orderly Ademosu, who has been closely associated with the IGP since his appointment in June 2023, received her new rank in breach of the standard promotion protocol.

“Yemisi Ademosu was the lady who travels with him. She got promoted from ASP to DSP — from one star to three stars — without sitting for or passing any promotion exams,” a senior officer confirmed.

The sources claimed that Ademosu relocated to Abuja shortly after Egbetokun’s appointment as acting IGP by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the retirement of Usman Alkali Baba. Since then, she has reportedly gained significant access to the police chief, accompanying him on both official and personal engagements.

The alleged fast-track promotion has sparked renewed concerns over favouritism and a lack of transparency in the Force’s promotion process.

Several officers who spoke on condition of anonymity said the development has demoralized personnel who have passed their exams but remain unpromoted.

This incident follows previous reports by Thenewsnaija on the rapid career progression of another female officer, Bukola Kuti, who currently serves as Principal Staff Officer (PSO 3) to the IGP.

Kuti was recently promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) — a rank many believe she attained through personal ties rather than merit.

Sources claimed that Kuti, who reportedly maintains a personal relationship with the IGP, has also clashed with other female officers in the IGP’s office, accusing them of attempting to get close to him.

ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer and a known associate of Kuti, has also been the subject of multiple sexual harassment petitions, which sources allege have been ignored by police authorities.
