Kano Hisbah Arrests 62 Over Alleged Immoral Acts During Rainfall
The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 62 people — 27 men and 35 women — over alleged immoral activities at the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) annex in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
Confirming the development in a telephone interview on Monday, the Board’s Deputy Commandant, Mujahid Aminudeen, said the arrests were made on Sunday in a joint operation with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
According to him, the suspects were accused of “taking advantage of the persistent rainfall to engage in immoral behavior.”
“The board will not fold its arms and allow people to continue violating Shari’a. We call on the public to keep reporting such acts in the state,” Aminudeen said.
He added that a similar operation was recently conducted at Tamburawa Bridge, where several individuals were also apprehended. All suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
This latest operation follows a series of arrests by the Hisbah Board. Two weeks ago, 26 women were arrested at a hotel in Kano metropolis after residents complained about alleged illicit activities. That raid was carried out with the support of military authorities.
Aminudeen further revealed that during the hotel raid, many suspects were found drunk, and several cartons of alcohol were confiscated.
The deputy commander emphasized that Hisbah’s crackdown on immoral activities would continue across Kano State as part of efforts to enforce Shari’a law.
