In Ekiti, a viral bread giveaway sparks new concerns about vote-buying (Video).
Intense debate has been sparked by a viral video ahead of a significant governorship race. Allegations of voter solicitation were raised by photos that were captured on the road.

In the hours leading up to the June 20, 2026, gubernatorial election, a little over a minute-long video taken from a car behind shows people congregating to pick bread that has been placed on the ground. Observers claim this is vote-buying.
APC candidate Biodun Oyebanji, the current governor, is running for a second term against 13 other candidates.
Given Nigeria’s present inflation issue and the country’s pervasive food insecurity, some have denounced the behaviour as dehumanizing and likened it to feeding animals.
Neither the campaign nor the APC have commented on the incident, despite some defending the gesture as showing concern for the populace.
The state’s 1.05 million registered voters continue to struggle with the electoral commission’s regulations that forbid vote-buying.
