Kano Court Sentenced a Man to 20 Years in Prison for Raping an 85-year-old Woman.
In a worrisome case that has sparked great public outrage, a Kano State High Court has imposed a substantial prison sentence.
Muhammad Zulfalalu, also known as “Mai Siket,” a 32-year-old male, was given a 20-year prison sentence by a Kano State High Court for raping an 85-year-old woman in the state’s Kiru Local Government Area.
The prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, according to Justice Aisha Mahmoud, who delivered the verdict after finding the defendant guilty on a nine-count indictment that bordered on rape and housebreaking.
Zulfalalu was given a concurrent sentence of 20 years in prison for rape and an extra six years for housebreaking.
Additionally, the victim received N500,000 in compensation from the court.
The offenses were perpetrated at Gidan Kwano, Kwanar Dangora, in Kiru LGA between August 2019 and June 2020, according to prosecution attorney Aisha Adamu.
She claimed that Zulfalalu had a history of breaking into homes at night prior to his final arrest and that the convict had unlawfully entered the victim’s home while it was dark and sexually assaulted her.
According to a statement released by Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim, Maude’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, the ruling would strengthen public trust in the legal system and highlight the government’s dedication to safeguarding society’s most vulnerable citizens.
He praised the prosecution’s expertise in getting the conviction.
