Ebonyi Governor Approves ₦1.1 Million Compensation for Victims of Amagu-Nkalaha Herdsmen Attack
The Ebonyi State Government has announced a ₦1.1 million compensation package for each victim of the February 2, 2025, suspected herdsmen attack on the Amagu-Nkalaha community in Ishielu Local Government Area.
The violent incident left at least 16 residents dead, 25 houses destroyed, and property worth millions of naira reduced to ashes. Eyewitnesses and reports allege that Fulani herdsmen were responsible for the invasion, which saw homes set ablaze and residents brutally killed.
Deputy Governor Princess Patricia Onyemaechi Obila, who also chairs the Interstate Boundaries Committee, disclosed the approval during a meeting with Ishielu stakeholders and survivors at her Abakaliki office on Wednesday.
She appealed to both the Nkalaha people and Fulani herdsmen to maintain peace, stressing that the governor’s gesture was aimed at fostering unity and reconciliation. Obila also revealed that the state government plans to implement developmental projects in the area if peace is sustained.
The compensation payout will officially commence on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Ishielu Local Government Headquarters by 11:00 a.m. Funds will be transferred directly to profiled victims via their bank accounts.
