The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a strict warning to Nigerian students studying in the U.S., urging them to strictly follow the conditions of their student visas — or risk losing their right to remain in the country.
In a statement released Wednesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the mission reminded students that maintaining both academic and immigration status is non-negotiable. Any violation could result in visa revocation and jeopardize future visa applications.

Common violations include:
- Dropping out of school without notice
- Failing to attend classes regularly
- Changing academic programs without informing the school
The embassy emphasized:
“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your program of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas. Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues.”
The mission also reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on breaches of U.S. laws. Any arrest, they warned, could lead to immediate immigration consequences — including deportation and a permanent ban on future visas.
The advisory, shared with hashtags #VisaWiseTravelSmart and #USVisa, comes as thousands of Nigerian students prepare to travel for the September academic session.
