At Apapa Port in Lagos, the Nigeria Customs Service has confiscated illicit goods valued at N43.59 billion, including hard drugs, drones used for surveillance, and out-of-date medications.
Twelve containers were seized during intelligence-led operations, according to the Comptroller-General of Customs.
About 7.6 tons of cannabis, more than 169,000 bottles of codeine syrup, 108 high-definition drones, and thousands of expired products, such as ketchup, antiseptic liquid, vaginal tablets, and disposable diapers, were found in the seizures.
The agency is tasked with safeguarding the country’s supply chain, securing borders, and guaranteeing the security of commodities entering the country under the 2023 Customs Act.
Officials observed that smugglers are now more skilled at concealing illegal goods within legal shipments.
