Flying Eagles Kick Off U-20 AFCON Campaign with 1-0 Win Over Tunisia
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have started their Africa U-20 Cup of Nations campaign on a winning note, defeating Tunisia 1-0 in a tightly contested Group B opener at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium.
Auwal Ibrahim, the promising Akwa United forward, scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute, calmly finishing off a flowing team move. The goal proved enough to seal all three points for Nigeria and underline their early intent in the tournament.

“We knew we had to stay focused against another North African side,” said Flying Eagles coach Aliyu Zubairu, whose team showcased attacking verve similar to their 2-1 victory over host nation Egypt in a warm-up match earlier in the week.
With a balanced mix of home-based stars and European-based talent, Nigeria now sits top of Group B. The victory also extended Nigeria’s dominant record over Tunisia in U-20 AFCON history.
