On June 13, 1936, he was born in Otua, a town in Edo State, Nigeria’s Owan East local government area.

The legendary music critic and broadcaster is most known for being the original band manager of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and a founding member of Radio Nigeria 2, which was established in 1977 and is currently known as Metro FM.

In addition, he is the director and grandpa of Burna Boy, a Nigerian reggae-dancehall performer, Damini Ogulu. One could want to connect this to the fact that Burna Boy’s songs contain elements of Fela’s musical styles, at least one.
