Nigerian Government Debunks Rumors of Third Mainland Bridge Collapse, Says It Is Safe
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, has reassured Nigerians that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos is safe and not in danger of collapsing.
This statement comes after false rumors circulated on social media, claiming that the bridge was shaking and on the verge of collapse.
During a recent inspection of the bridge with journalists, Kesha described the rumors as “false and malicious.” She attributed the rumors to “mischief columnists” who are trying to create unnecessary panic and tension.
Kesha emphasized that the bridge’s structural integrity is uncompromised and that it is safe for use by motorists. “We are using this opportunity to tell the motoring public, Lagosians, and all Nigerians that the bridge is safe, and the integrity is not in doubt,” she said.
The controller urged Nigerians to disregard the baseless claims and continue using the bridge with confidence. Her reassurance is expected to alleviate the fears of motorists who use the bridge daily.
The Third Mainland Bridge is a critical infrastructure in Lagos, connecting the mainland to the island.
Any damage or collapse of the bridge would have severe consequences for the city’s traffic and economy.
