U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded a tense summit in Alaska on Friday, but despite hours of negotiations, no formal agreement was reached on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

The high-stakes meeting at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson lasted more than two and a half hours, with Trump describing the discussions as “extremely productive.” He admitted that while “many points” were agreed upon, a full resolution is still pending.

There’s no deal until there’s a deal,” Trump told reporters, underscoring the fragile state of the talks.

Putin, however, hinted at some form of “agreement,” though neither leader provided concrete details.

Notably missing from the summit was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump later emphasized his crucial role, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity:

“It’s really up to President Zelenskyy to get it done. One or two significant items are still left, but I think they can be reached. The European nations also have to get involved, but it’s up to President Zelenskyy.”

Trump confirmed he would personally brief NATO leaders and place a direct call to Zelenskyy in the coming days. He also reiterated plans for a future trilateral meeting with both Putin and the Ukrainian president.

Pressed on his advice to Zelenskyy, Trump was characteristically blunt:

Make the deal. Gotta make the deal, yeah. Look, Russia is a very big power, and they’re not.”

The joint press conference ended quickly, with both leaders shaking hands but refusing to take questions from the hundreds of journalists in attendance.

Trump also suggested that decisions on sanctions against Russia would be delayed:

“Because of what happened today, I don’t have to think about it for two or three weeks.”
