Liverpool kicked off their 2025/26 Premier League season in style with a thrilling 4-2 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night.
The game was played in an emotional atmosphere, as fans and players paid tribute to the late Diogo Jota before kick-off.
Ekitike Makes Instant Impact
New signing Hugo Ekitike wasted no time in announcing himself to the Anfield faithful. The French forward broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, calmly slotting past George Petrovic after outpacing Marcos Senesi.
Just after the break, Ekitike turned provider, assisting Cody Gakpo for Liverpool’s second goal in the 48th minute.
Semenyo Fights Back for Bournemouth
Bournemouth refused to go down quietly. Antoine Semenyo scored twice in quick succession — first with a close-range finish in the 60th minute, and later with a brilliant solo goal in the 75th minute — to drag the visitors level at 2-2.
The match was briefly paused in the first half following a report of racist abuse directed at Semenyo, with officials and managers intervening before play resumed.
Chiesa and Salah Seal the Win
Just when it seemed Bournemouth might snatch a point, Federico Chiesa restored Liverpool’s lead in the 88th minute, smashing in a volley from a poor clearance.
Moments later, Mohamed Salah put the result beyond doubt with a trademark solo effort in stoppage time.
